The Challenge

In the competitive world of snack bars, continually offering new and different flavors and product lines is necessary to grow and maintain market share.

Our client recently introduced a line of snack bars with two flavors into the market. They wanted to determine which flavors they should add to this line and what other snack bar line ideas should be further refined for potential launches in the future.


Our Solution

The Pert Group conducted an online concept study among category users to help our client with this determination:

  • We developed and tested a number of snack bar line concept ideas, each with a set of possible flavors and forms. The in-market snack bar line was included in this conceptual set, along with current and potential flavors.
  • We identified which flavors could potentially add the most market share to their existing bar line, minimizing cannibalization and maximizing consumer satisfaction. We also identified three additional snack bar lines that would complement the existing offerings and should be considered for future launches.

Results

As a result of our findings, our client is currently conducting product refinement testing on one of the identified flavors, which will soon be added to their current in-market snack bar line. The analysis will provide the client with guidance for further snack bar lines and can be repeated to continue to refine and manage the optimal product line.
